Claudia Llosa
Claudia Llosa, born in Lima in 1976, is a Peruvian filmmaker and screenwriter who studied Communication in Lima and scriptwriting in Madrid. After beginning her career in advertising, she founded her own production company. Her debut feature Madeinusa (2006) premiered at Sundance and earned multiple international awards. Her second film, La teta asustada (The Milk of Sorrow), won the Golden Bear and FIPRESCI Award at the Berlinale, becoming the first Peruvian film nominated for an Academy Award. In 2012, her short film Loxoro won the Teddy Award at Berlinale. She made her English-language debut with Aloft (2014), starring Jennifer Connelly and Cillian Murphy, which screened at Berlin and Sundance.
Llosa is also a commercial director, working with brands like Estrella Damm, American Express, and Prom Perú. In 2010, she was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
